Day 3

Another Vedic connection

‘When Vijay was here a couple of weeks ago,’ Colin explained, ‘he visited megalithic sites in Wales, with Alice and Saul. He had written to me about his visit since he was quite impressed by what he saw.’

Vijay nodded his agreement.

Colin referred to his laptop. ‘One of the things I stumbled upon while researching the Tuatha de Danann just now is the Welsh connection. There are old Welsh legends that tell the story of a Druid called Gwydion ap Don,’ he grimaced, not sure if he had got the pronunciation correct.

‘His name is interesting. “Gwydion” means man of learning, magician, philosopher or even scientist; and apparently there are meanings attached to the name, which come down from antiquity: giant, monster, wizard, sorcerer. “Ap Don” means “son of Don”. Don is an important female in the collection of old Welsh legends called Mabinogion. Don is married to Beli ap Manogan, who is often referred to as the god of the dead. Don, through her marriage with Beli, gives birth to children who are known in mythology as the Children or Lords of Light. Gwydion was the eldest son, known as an astronomer and a master of light; sometimes even referred to as a man of science. And listen to this.’

The little group waited expectantly, as Colin mentally summarised what he had read so he could be succinct.

‘Celtic scholars believe that “Don” is a variant on the name “Danu”. And we all know who Danu is,’ he concluded.

‘Let me get this,’ Harry spoke up for the first time. He had been sitting quietly all this time, listening to the discussion but not contributing. Now, he summarised the discussion, trying to cut through the mass of data they had just been presented with by Colin and Shukla. ‘You’re saying that the Tuatha de Danann are the original Druids—the Lords of Light—who populated Ireland before the Celts arrived there. These guys were the sons of Danu, who is also the mother of Danavas from Indian mythology. The Tuatha de Danann brought to Ireland the original Druidic practices and, possibly, the beliefs of the Druids, which were the same as the beliefs of the Vedic people. A variant of the myth exists in Wales, which means the Lords of Light were also in Britain. Somehow, somewhere, they faded away and were replaced by the Druids, as we know them; and when the Celts arrived, the Druids, using their power of the weapon brought by Semiramis, established their authority in Celtic tradition and society. Finally, the Druids were connected to the Vedic priests by virtue of the connection between the Tuatha de Danann and the Danavas.’

‘That’s a pretty good summary, Harry,’ Vijay said, impressed. ‘As crazy as it sounds, all the evidence we have seems to point to exactly the conclusions you just stated.’

‘I wouldn’t have believed it if it wasn’t for the story on the prisms and the Quintus Codex,’ Goldfeld stated flatly.

‘Neither would I,’ Alice agreed. ‘But they seem to corroborate the links in mythology that we’ve discovered.
